From the Classroom to the Prison Cells
The amount of money that is spent to keep an inmate in jail is disproportionate to the amount that that is spent by the state per student. In every state across the board, funding for students remains at around $10,000 but funding to keep an inmate in jail is anywhere from $10,000 to $60,000 in some states. Each state spends more per inmate than it does per student. Not only is the prison system ineffective at the rehabilitation of prisoners but it also drains the Government of the monetary resources that could have been spent on the educational system, which is something that actually does its job as a functional entity. |
