Death To The Death Penalty: Killing Me Softly.
The existence and perpetuation of the death penalty is no different than the legalization of common murder. It is an archaic form of punishment that should be left in the past rather than still be active in the present. As of 2014, there are only 18 states that have abolished the death penalty completely, leaving 32 states behind not only in legislation but also with the times (NAACP). Even more recently, with the case of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev reaching its penance stage, the death penalty is being brought back to the forefront of the federal courthouse (Sloane). And with it, we are confronted with an important definition. |
"Unfortunately, with the implementation of the law, society seems to be taking a step backward into the past instead of progressing. No matter the form of the death penalty, it is a barbaric practice with no place in our society today. This new yet old form of the death penalty should serve as a wake-up call for our country to this outdated punishment for our country’s worst criminals." |
